Buellton vet Dr Diana Bochenski, is a Holistic veterinarian who uses minute concentrations of substances including powders and some pills. “She believes in a raw meat diet to help animals heal themselves. My friend Betty had a small poodle that developed liver failure. The allopathic vet gave him only a couple of weeks to live. This dog died of old age many years later,” Virginia reported. Dr. Ella Bittel offers a free helpline for anyone attempting to hospice their animal companion, and also online classes for those preparing for their animal’s transition. Dr. Bittel says “learning about it ahead of time, best when an animal is still well, is ideal given the complexity of issues one can encounter.” She lives in Costa Rica nowadays.

Dr. Bittel is a leader in animal hospice care. She has created a weekend seminar as well as online classes for anyone interested in options in end-of-life care for our animal companions.

Dr. Burke received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from UC Davis in 1988. In 1996, she became certified in Veterinary Acupuncture. In addition, she continued her training at Emperor’s College in Santa Monica, taking courses in 1998 and 1999.

She is one of the few veterinarians on the central coast to practice small animal acupuncture.

Dr. Alwen came to the San Luis Obispo in 2002. With 25 years of experience, Dr. Alwen offers advanced surgeries such as orthopedics, TPLO (Tibial plateau leveling osteotomy), Arthroscopy, MRI, neurology, and oncology, in addition to quality general health care. After falling in love with the area they purchased the Broad Street clinic on January 1, 2003. It later became the Edna Valley Veterinary Clinic and Surgical Services. Since then, Dr. Alwen has expanded and enhanced the clinic’s services to include a low-cost mobile vaccine clinic.
